MSE 5090: Case Studies in Material Selection

Week 4 - Cambridge Material Selector1

  Problem 1.1

Finding and printing data

(a) Generic data for low-alloy steels. Find "Steels, low alloy" in the Generic database by using the ID-tree (button on top of "Properties" window). The data can be printed by using the PRINT command in the "File" menu.

(b) Data for a specific alloy: 7075 aluminum alloy in the T6 condition. Find the wrought aluminum alloy 7075-T6 in the Light Alloy data base. First change to this database (called "light DB"), by double-clicking on its name in the Database file of the Data menu. Then find 7075-T6 using the ID-tree.

(c) Changing units. Change the units for 7075-T6 to Imperial and its currency to US$ using the Units file in the Data menu. Limit the display to mechanical data only, using the Property filter on top of the "Properties" window. The data can be printed by using the PRINT command in the "File" menu.
Instead of Printing attach the data to a file and email it to me.

(d) Restore the system back to All Properties and SI-units before going on to the next exercise.
